new polymer for transparent sun protection and innovative textures
highly effective sun protection cosmetics that give skin a silky feel are in greater demand than ever. consumers want transparent sunscreens in spray or gel form, because they can be spread over the skin more easily than lotions and form an invisible, but effective film. with the new, ethanol-based polyurethane film-former baycusan® c 2000, covestro has developed precisely the right product to meet these requirements.
just a small amount of this raw material added to sunscreen formulations significantly increased the sun protection factor in in vivo tests, meaning it has an spf-boosting effect. consumers benefit from its high waterproofness, which is maintained even after repeated dips in the water. the formulations absorb quickly, leaving skin feeling fantastic, and what’s more: they can be applied on wet skin.
baycusan® c 2000 can easily be incorporated into sunscreen gels, aerosol sprays and oils, and is compatible with common uv protection agents. manufacturers save time, energy and money compared to other film-formers, because they do not have to heat or neutralize the products.
for a natural look
baycusan® c 1004 is ideal for innovative foundation formulations. it lends products a long shelf-life and lasting coverage, and gives skin a luxurious, natural feel. the product with the inci name (international nomenclature of cosmetic ingredients) “polyurethane-35” has been approved for the chinese market and now supports the development of global formulations.
in hair care and styling products, baycusan® c 1008 proves to be a true jack of all trades. it forms a highly elastic film around each and every strand of hair, reliably shielding it against the effects of heat and humidity. it gives hair flexible hold and is the perfect tool for controlling frizz, because it is proven to inhibit it. at the same time, it is capable of “cementing” split ends. in other words, hair care formulations can enjoy the triple benefit of “protect – repair – style.”
